who really cares by tv girl

i love this stupid album so much. from what i got, the singer looks back on his past relationship(s). it's all so bitter and pathetic but all of it is still so good. the album opens with taking what's not yours and it sets the tone for the rest of the record beautifully. it's so fun and catchy and the sampling is exquisite but the one good listen at the lyrics and you can tell the singer is incapable of moving on. the entire album is very reminiscent and wistful. cigarettes out the window is very showing of that and is one of my favorite tracks on the entire thing.

the next few songs are about end and subsequent rotting of a relationship. the 5th track, not allowed, probably this album's most successful song, the singer talks about how much better he thinks he is for his former lover. the entire thing comes of as incredibly entitled and pathetic the protagonist truly is. immediately following it is do the act like you never met me, which in my opionon is the perfect sequence. it's essentially about the ritual every failed relationship has. the singer laments that his former flame is ignoring him and moving on. this new behavior contrasted with memories of happy times they shared in the relationship is so relatable and painful but also so pathetic.

the 8th track, for you, the entitlement returns in force. the track starts out with a very intentional use of a sample from good taste tip: dating courtesy. i strongly recommend everyone to go listen to the actual song but long story short, the entire song is an artsy take on "good guys finish last :D". though i do admit, it makes some very good points about power imbalances in relationships i also think that all of this was very intentional in the sense that the singer knew he was also in the wrong and overly entitled but just didn't care.

the 10th and final track on this album (and my personal favorite) heaven is your bedroom is in my opinion the perfect end to the album. though he never outright says it, it almost comes off as an apology, or at least aknowledging he was in the wrong. he admits to regretting his emotional invulnerability. he admits to wrongly treating sex as his salvation. he admits that hes been sinful. and he regrets letting go of something he would later understand was as close as he would get to heaven.

as body of work, it's so good for so many different reasons. it's so relatable and yet so self-indulgent and it's amazing for just that. it shows the stupid selfish dumbass listener how stupid and selfish and dumb he is. anw a categorical 32045738/10.
